Cities for All Helsinki is an international conference
aimed
at bringing together a diverse range of solutions, illustrating the genuine
potential of design to cater for different people’s needs and create a better
city for all. The conference is part of the official World Design Capital
Helsinki 2012 programme. The conference will bring the European Union’s focus
area for the year, Active Ageing, to design capital. It will also provide a
unique forum where professionals from different fields can share their visions
of how design solutions, which pay equal attention to the dignity and needs of
different user groups, can improve common wellbeing and welfare. Professionals
will also have the chance to consider how such solutions can generate more
added value in both the public sector and in businesses.
The Cities for All Helsinki conference is targeted at designers working
in all fields (from products, architecture and the environment to communications,
services and systems), and decision-makers in the public and private sectors.
The conference consists of a professional conference and an exhibition. The conference
language will be English.
Participants in the Cities for All Helsinki Conference will
gain invaluable experiences at Design for All: unprecedented inspiration,
visionary knowledge and enthusiastic innovation in the areas of accessibility,
social cohesion and understanding.
The conference itself will provide an example
of an accessible event, designed to cater for people of all kinds.
